A Rare Opportunity: Dr. Jackson Katz Coming to Miles City

BY: CNADA

Every once in a while, a community is given a gift—an opportunity to learn, to grow, and to come together in ways that can truly change lives. This October, Miles City has just such a gift.

On Saturday, October 18th at 3:30 p.m., the men of our community are invited to the Event Center at the Custer County Fairgrounds for a Men’s Leadership Conference featuring Dr. Jackson Katz—an internationally acclaimed educator, author, filmmaker, and cultural leader whose life’s work has been dedicated to ending gender violence and inspiring men to lead with integrity.

The Men’s Leadership Conference is free of charge, making this a rare opportunity for every man in our community to attend and be part of something greater.

Dr. Katz is best known for pioneering the idea that domestic violence, sexual assault, and harassment are not just “women’s issues,” but rather issues of leadership and accountability for men. His groundbreaking Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) program has been adopted by schools, colleges, professional sports teams, and all branches of the U.S. military. Through his work, he has trained soldiers, athletes, CEOs, and students alike, challenging men everywhere to take ownership in creating safer communities.

His words cut through the silence that often surrounds abuse. “The goal is not just to raise awareness, but to inspire action,” Katz often says. “Silence is complicity. When good men do nothing, abuse thrives.”

In his bestselling book The Macho Paradox, he wrote, “Violence against women is often considered a women’s issue, but in reality it’s men’s issue too—because so many men are perpetrators, and so many men are bystanders with the power to make a difference.”

He also reminds us that true leadership requires empathy and courage: “Real strength is not about intimidation or fear—it’s about respect, responsibility, and standing up for those who cannot stand up for themselves.”

From producing award-winning documentaries to speaking at the United Nations, Dr. Katz has spent decades shifting cultural conversations across the globe. And now, his message is coming to Eastern Montana.

How fortunate we are to welcome someone of his caliber to Miles City. His presence here offers our community the chance to learn from one of the world’s leading voices on gender violence prevention. Our sons, fathers, husbands, brothers, and friends all have a role to play in creating a culture where abuse has no place, where survivors are believed and supported, and where men use their voices for good.

This is not just a conference—it’s a call to action. It is a moment for the men of Miles City to stand shoulder-to-shoulder and show that we are a community that values safety, dignity, and respect for all.

And the evening doesn’t end there. Following the conference, at 5:30 p.m., CNADA will host its second annual Unmasking Domestic Violence Masquerade Ball, also at the Event Center. Tickets are $50 each and can be purchased online at www.cnada.org, or in person at CNADA’s office, 2200 Box Elder St., Suite 135.

The Ball promises to be a night to remember—filled with a silent auction featuring incredible items, delicious food, amazing music, and tasty drinks. More importantly, it is a night to raise awareness and to show survivors across Eastern Montana that they are not alone, and that this community stands firmly with them.

October 18th will be a day Miles City won’t forget—a day of learning, leading, and lifting up one another. Join us for this powerful moment. Together, we can show what it truly means to be a community.
